If you are passionate about making a lasting difference for Palestine refugees, in this role you will be supervising a number of professional and support staff. You will be responsible for establishing guidelines and standards of safety for design and construction of the Agency's structures, monitoring the Agency's construction and maintenance works, including structural design, specifications of materials, workmanship as related to structural integrity, soundness and safety. You will be responsible for making sure, through design checking and monitoring implementation, that structures are safe and serve their function over their life span while making efficient and effective use of funds and materials. The responsibilities span a wide area and require in depth treatment to address considerably intricate and complex matters. 
The main responsibilitiesinclude: 
Developing standards, criteria and guiding principles to ensure adequacy of structural design; updating Agency-wide standards for structural design and safety and related details; planning, revises and leading the update of the Agency's modular structural designs, relevant technical instructions and procedures, such as those related to soil testing, site investigation, standard structural systems, seismic loads and modular earthquake-resistant designs; developing and supervising the preparation of technical specifications relating to strength of materials and relevant quality tests; 
Approving the structural designs produced at the Fields, and giving clearance for implementation in the relevant Field; approving specifications of building materials used in structural components; 
Monitoring and reporting on the Agency’s structural works in the Fields to ensure that structural systems meet standards and comply with the Agency's established procedures and practice; regularly visiting Agency construction sites to verify/monitor the adequacy of skeleton and/or components of buildings in terms of quality, controls, and performance and to identify areas in need of improvement or modifications; making recommendations to Director of Infrastructure and Camp Improvement or acting directly on improvements or irregularities to be followed up with the Fields; providing expert technical support, guidance and monitoring to the Fields in the areas of geotechnical investigation, structural design and implementation, structural integrity of existing structures and maintenance thereto, and site safety issues, including but not limited to structural aspects, temporary works such as the design and erection of scaffolding; 
Overseeing assessment of existing buildings with regard to structural integrity and advising on remedial works; analysing and assessing any changes requested for existing buildings, suggesting solutions, advising and making recommendations to ensure structural integrity and safety; 
Creating quality assurance and quality control measures specific to structural integrity and safety at the design, implementation and maintenance phases; developing and preparing checklists for site supervisors on structural integrity and safety-related issues; 
Conducting training in his/her area of expertise for the engineering staff Agency-wide involved in structural design and evaluation of structural safety; including relevant software; developing knowledge relevant to structural issues and their application and training technical staff thereto Agency-wide; maintaining awareness of the relevant code and standards in current use understanding and application of the implications of health and site safety regulations, measures and issues and their effect on the environment; 
Supporting the Fields in cases of emergencies in the area of structural risk and damage assessment and implements immediate structural safety measures and recommending on relevant medium and long term actions; 
Keeping contact and coordination with local regulating authorities/bodies and international bodies working on building codes and standards to ensure keeping the Agency up to date in the area of structural design, safety and materials. 

Conditions of service   
The fixed term appointment is for 3 years including 1 year probation period. Monthly basic salary JD 1176.60plus special occupational allowance of 69.9% of the basic salary. Other benefits include monthly Provident Fund contribution (15% of basic salary paid by the 
Agency), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and dependency allowance (if applicable).  

Additional information 
The incumbent will be expected to travel extensively in the Agency's area of operations without hindrance.  
Possession of a valid driving license. 

To qualify for this position, you will need: 
Education  Advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in civil/structural engineering; 
Work experience  Eight years’ experience in structural design, of which three years should have been in a supervisory capacity; 
Experience in structural design software and computer-aided design; Familiarity with international and local building codes and practice including those related to health and safety measures on construction sites; 
Knowledge in methods of construction and materials in the Middle East. 

Language(s)  Excellent command of written and spoken English.
